Understanding Fabrics

When you shop for women’s tops, it's easy to fall in love with a silhouette or color. But what truly elevates a piece—what makes it feel just right when you wear it—is the fabric. Knowing your fabrics isn't just helpful—it’s empowering. We carefully select materials that not only look beautiful but also feel amazing on your skin. Many of our most-loved women’s tops are crafted from three standout fabrics: Georgette, Muslin, Sateen and Modal.

1. Georgette

Featured In: The Paloma Collection
Texture: Crinkled, delicate ,lightweight
Feel: Slightly rough, bouncy
Why We Use It: For flowy, feminine silhouettes that move with you

Georgette is a sheer, lightweight fabric known for its slightly crinkled texture and flowing drape. Originally made from silk and named after early 20th-century French dressmaker Georgette de la Plante, it now also comes in synthetic versions like polyester.
Unlike chiffon, which is smooth and slick, georgette offers a bit more structure while still maintaining a delicate feel. While the fabric itself is breathable and soft enough for all-day wear. We love how georgette holds a gentle structure—perfect for ruffle details, balloon sleeves, and layered designs.

The Paloma Collection is designed entirely in Georgette, giving each piece that breezy, elevated look and feel.

2. Muslin

Featured In: The Arroyo and Mojave Collections
Texture: Soft, plain weave
Feel: Soft, breathable, slightly rustic
Why We Use It: For a relaxed, artisanal vibe that feels great on skin

Muslin is one of those fabrics that feels effortless the moment you put it on. It has deep roots in Indian textile traditions and was once a prized export during the height of European trade. It is a loosely woven cotton fabric that is light, breathable, and gentle on sensitive skin. It’s perfect for warmer days or layering when the weather’s in between.
We love it for the relaxed, lived-in feel it brings to our tops—easy to wear, easy to love.

The Arroyo Collection takes muslin in a more refined direction—think sleek fits, clean lines, and warm, earthy tones. In contrast, the Mojave Collection embraces muslin’s softer side with relaxed fits, airy silhouettes, and a palette inspired by open landscapes. It’s all about effortless style and laid-back ease.

3. Modal

Featured In: The Arroyo and Mojave Collections
Texture:  Smooth, semi-silky
Feel: Soft, stretchy, breathable
Why We Use It: For all-day comfort

If you’ve ever worn a top that feels like second skin—that’s probably modal. It’s a type of rayon made from beech tree pulp, offering a luxuriously soft hand-feel that mimics silk while behaving like cotton. It’s lightweight, moisture-wicking, and resistant to shrinkage. It drapes beautifully without clinging too tightly, making it a favorite for all the day comfort. We choose modal when we want our pieces to feel as good as they look.

In Our Collection: Our modal basics are anything but basic. Try our Ojai Kurti —you’ll notice the difference the moment you slip it on.

4. Sateen

Featured In: The Elara Collection
Texture:  Smooth, lustrous surface with subtle sheen
Feel: Soft, silky, and buttery
Why We Use It: For pieces that want to feel like silk, but behave like cotton

Sateen refers to a weave—traditionally a satin-style structure—commonly executed using cotton (or cotton blends). The weft‑faced satin weave (for example, four over, one under) gives sateen its silky drape and glossy look reminiscent of silk satin, but at a more accessible price point and breathability.
